COURSEWORK
During my time as a Language and International Business major at Clemson, I have had the opportunity to take classes that helped enhanced both my Spanish and Business related skills. In this page, you can find the courses I have taken and what I learned from each one. I also included classes that are not necessarily related to my major but ones I believe will help me in the future.
BUSINESS COURSES
ACCT 2020: Managerial Accounting Concepts
This course introduced me to the basic concepts of accounting and how the information is used by managers in order to come up with decisions. This class did not involve as many numbers as Financial Accounting so it was easier for me to learn.
ECON 2110: Principles of Microeconomics
This course taught me the basic principles of how individual firms function and I learned the different economic behaviors that affect consumers' decisions. Using real life examples, I was able to really understand each behavior and even created my own to practice.
ECON 3140: Intermediate Microeconomics
This course is a continuation of the previous Microeconomics class. In this class, we focused on real-life applications of the theories we learned previously and it involved more mathematical learning. Once again, real life examples were used so I was able to really understand each theory.
ECON 2120: Principles of Macroeconomics
In this class, I learned about a more holistic view of economics. We focused on issues pertaining to the economy as a whole rather than individual firms and we looked at several problems faced by our economy such as: inflation, unemployment and both fiscal and monetary policies.
MGT 2010: Principles of Management
This class taught me the basic organization of management and what each level does in a company setting. In a group project, we did a Leadership Case Study and evaluated one company from the Fortune 500 Company List and their CEO, which for us was Apple and Tim Cook, and looked at their ways of management and evaluated their overall success. This project specifically taught me the necessary leadership abilities needed in order to succeed.
MKT 3010: Principles of Marketing
This course introduced me to the most important factors of Marketing and the basic knowledge of creating a successful way of distributing of goods and services in the market. The four P's of Marketing, also known as the Marketing Mix was emphasized in this class.
ENGL 3040: Business Writing
This course taught me about the different documents commonly found in business settings and I learned how to properly write different ones, including blogs, cover letters, a problem-solving report, and a video tutorial. I also learned about several strategies that make an excellent business paper.
MKT 3020: Consumer Behavior
In this course, we looked at the more psychological side of why consumers choose to do what they do and applied it to Marketing. I saw many behavioral concepts I learned in my previous Psychology class but this time it was applied to consumer's buying decisions.
MKT 4270: International Marketing
This class taught me the importance of either adapting or changing in order to accommodate a new foreign market it's trying to enter. I also learned about several countries' social, political and economical environment and how those affect existing firms and new ones. As a group project, we were able to find a startup company and argued the best country to bring this new company to.
SPANISH
COURSES
SPAN 2020: Intermediate Spanish
This course was my first Spanish class at Clemson. I relearned the basic ways of conjugating different verbs and other grammatical structures. I also learned about culture, which I think is extremely important when learning about a language because it's a great way to really immerse yourself.
SPAN 3020: Intermediate Spanish Grammar and Composition
In this class, I wrote several essays in order to practice my Spanish writing skills and developed them to be better. I also learned more ways of conjugating different verbs based on various situations and was able to complete a group cultural project at the end of the semester.
SPAN 3050: Intermediate Spanish Conversation/Composition I
This class really helped me refine my Spanish writing and comprehension skills by watching several movies and shorts and writing quick papers about them. I also did a presentation at the end about a specific movie we watched in class and the lessons I learned from it.
OTHER COURSES
COMM 1500: Intro to Human Communication
Though this class is taken by every student at Clemson, make no mistake of thinking it's an easy class. Public speaking is something I am terrified of so this class was not easy at the beginning because of the 4 required speech assignments we had to complete but by the end of it, I learned the necessary tools needed in order to successfully deliver a speech and I am now more confident about my public speaking skills.
COMM 1800: Intro to Cross-Cultural Communication
I personally believe that everyone should take this class to get a better understanding of the world and to have an open-mind about other cultures. As the world become smaller, we are faced with challenges dealing with communicating with other people from different backgrounds and this class showed me the most common mistakes made by people who don't understand a specific culture and eventually how those mistakes can be turned into learning experiences.
PSYC 2010: Intro to Psychology
This class was my introduction to the world of the brain. In Intro to Psych, I learned about how different factors affect our way of thinking and making decisions. I also learned about the explanation to regular occurrences other people might not know about and taught had no meaning behind.
PSYC 3520: Social Psychology
In this class, we explored various social relationships that an an individual has and how these relationships affect a human being. We also talked about problems with people who can't make social relationships with others and how that ultimately affects them negatively, which can lead them to be an outcast and harm others.
PSYC 3570: Cross-Cultural Psychology
This course taught me the most common and uncommon differences between people's behaviors across the world. We learned about plenty of cultural factors affecting someone's behavior and how that could be seen as bad or good in different societies. We also presented a project at the end about a person not originally from the United States and explored their way of living before coming here.
MATH 2070: Business Calculus II
This class was a continuation of the first Business Calculus class and was a more in-depth look at the Mathematical explanation of different business strategies. I found this class easier than the first one because it was more straightforward and being in groups helped us learn easier because there was always someone to check your answers and correct them with an explanation.
